A stunning turn of events happened at Monday night’s Selectmen’s Meeting. Mr. Maney presented a subtle change to the L.I.F.E. Board. In the changes he suggested, 5 members would remain on the board with one very big beneficial change, one member would have to be a resident of a L.I.F.E village. This would reduce the current board by one member. Selectman Nelson made a motion to implement the changes to the board immediately. This move was swiftly seconded by Selectmen Crawford. In my opinion, it was truly amazing to see how our selectmen did not take the time to discuss the impact this would have for L.I.F.E., the makeup/operation of the Board or what was motivating this change. It appeared like the changes were predetermined and we were watching a well scripted scene play out.
What does this mean? Dave Miller, our past Selectman, on the Board that created L.I.F.E., Moderator and member of the Finance Committee and Board of Appeals, was pushed off the L.I.F.E. Board. At the same time, Selectmen Nelson and Crawford placed Joe Maney, Fred Santangelo, Jack Adelson, Bruce Siegel on the Board and a resident of L.I.F.E. will be placed on the board, at a later point in time. All this was done with only a mumbling of thanks to Mr. Miller for his service without acknowledging him in any other way. As has been done many times before, Selectmen Nelson and Crawford acted in unison. It is a sad state of affairs when a man like Dave Miller can give so many years to the town and be treated so poorly……
When Selectmen Nelson named the remaining Board Members, Selectmen Terranova asked why each L.I.F.E. Village could not elect its own board Directors.
He added that removing Mr. Miller is unconscionable. Mr. Maney commented that it has been this way for 20 years or more, referring to one outside board running all the villages. Pat Campbell stood up and said, “This action has taken Dave Miller off of this L.I.F.E. Board. Mr. Miller has been an elected Selectmen, Moderator and a member of our finance committee. It is unconscionable!”
On a good note: Selectman Terranova reached out to Mr. Miller and thanked him for his service and apologized for the treatment he received.
Also, Tom Kennedy was nominated to the Finance Committee. I applaud Mr. Kennedy for his perseverance in his efforts to become a member of the board. I know he will be a proactive, contributing addition to the committee. I too put my name in for the Finance Committee. Although not nominated, I am not deterred and will continue to work to keep you up to date on all town matters that are important to the residents of Lynnfield.
All the Best,
